Our History

The Bowman & Partners team was originally established in April 1985 by Jim Bowman as “Jim Bowman Tax & Accounting.” Jim’s career in the financial services industry began in October 1962. He served as an advisor and manager for two national firms until April 1985. Jim’s objective was to provide a wider range of investment and insurance options to his clients along with tailored financial and wealth planning advice. This goal continues to be the focus of the Bowman & Partners team at Assante Capital Management Ltd.

Jim introduced two important concepts in 1985. These fundamental principles continue to be the foundation for the financial advice we provide to our clients.

• Coordinated Financial Planning helped clients recognize that their financial success required a comprehensive plan that coordinated their asset management, debt management, tax planning, and estate planning.
• Balanced Asset Management was a method of allocating investments to take advantage of market fluctuations caused by changes in world economic conditions and to provide geographic and asset class diversification.

Over the years, Jim built a strong team committed to providing good, honest financial advice to clients. Don Janzen joined the practice in 1993. Carl Maiolani came on board in 1996, from a background in banking. Jim’s son, Darryl, became an associate in 1998.

As the business grew, many individuals and families looked to our team for sound financial guidance. Recognizing the trust that his clients placed in the practice, Jim methodically planned to ensure continued quality of service and ongoing improvement, growth and development. In July 2007, after a carefully planned transition, Jim transferred his practice to his three associates, Don, Carl, and Darryl. To reflect the succession and out of respect for Jim Bowman’s good name, the partners renamed the practice Bowman & Partners.

Jim Bowman continues to serve clients as a Senior Financial Advisor with the new partners.

Bowman Tax Services (formerly Jim Bowman Tax & Accounting Services) is an outside business activity solely responsible for tax preparation services. Specific investment recommendations must be done through Assante Capital Management Ltd. (“Assante”), a registered investment dealer. Although Assante is not responsible for any service or product supplied through Bowman Tax Services, Assante will monitor for conflicts of interest and will investigate any client complaints related to services offered by Bowman Tax Services.
